1937 Buffalo Head Nickel
The Philadelphia Mint went crazy again with 1937 Buffalo Head Nickel and minted 79,480,000 coins. Not as many as in 1936 but still a lot of coins. The run of coins was pretty good and uncirculated mint coins are very available. What is rare is coins in mint condition with perfect details. The Philadelphia Mint minted 5,769 proof 1937 Buffalo Head Nickels. This was the last year the proof coins were made for the Buffalo Nickel series.
The Denver Mint struck 17,826,000 coins. This was a very good run of coins. Coins with perfect details are available. An interesting variety exists for the 1937-d Buffalo Head Nickel. A 3 legged coin was minted when a mint worker made an adjustment to the reverse die. The 3 legged coin has become one of the most popular coins in the series.
The San Francisco Mint struck 5,635,000 coins. This also was a above average run of coins. Finding coins in uncirculated mint condition should be pretty easy.
