1931 Buffalo Nickel

1931 Buffalo Nickel

The 1931 Buffalo Nickel was only minted at the San Francisco Mint. Only 1,200,000 Coins were produced.

The San Francisco Mint’s run of coins was a pretty good mintage in terms of quality. The coins produced were above average. Many uncirculated mint coins are available for purchase. What is rare or scarce is coins that have full complete details.

An interesting note with 1931 Buffalo Nickel. The San Francisco Mint’s only made 194,000 coins in it’s first mintage of 1931 Buffalo Nickels. The director of the mint at that time, Mary O’Reilly requested that more coins be made. She did not want the low number of coins causing them to become rare and inflating their value. A second run of coins was minted bringing the total coined to 1,200,000.
