1916 Buffalo Nickel

The Philadelphia Mint minted 63,497,466 coins of the 1916 Buffalo Nickels. In the 1916 run of coins a slight adjustment to the word LIBERTY on the Obverse was made, making it more pronounced. Overall the coins made were considered to be of good quality.

The Philadelphia Mint minted only 600 Matte Proof Coins.

An interesting variety was found with the 1916 Buffalo Nickel.
In some coins a doubled die obverse date was found but only was published about the find in 1962. The find is considered significant and makes the 1916 one of the most sought after varieties of Buffalo Head Nickels.

Of the 1916 Buffalo Nickel, the Denver Mint struck 13,333,000 coins and the San Francisco Mint made 11,860,000 coins.
