1936 Buffalo Head Nickel
The 1936 Buffalo Head Nickel was produced in mass quantity by the Philadelphia Mint. 118,997,000 coins were minted. This was the highest number of coins minted in one year for the Buffalo Nickel. The coins minted were a pretty good overall quality. You should be able to find some nice coins for your collection. Be aware coins with in mint condition with perfect details will be be a tough find.
The Denver Mint struck 24,814,000 coins. The coins minted were a pretty good quality and really nice ones can be found easily. Coins in mint condition with perfect details exist, but they are just hard to find.
The San Francisco Mint made 14,930,000 1936-S Buffalo Head Nickels. The San Francisco run of coins was the best of the 3 mints. Coins with perfect details exist and are not as rare as the coins produced at the other 2 mints.
Some interesting notes for the 1936 Buffalo Head Nickel. 1936 was the first year since 1916 that the Philadelphia Mint struck proof coins. 4.420 proof coins were made.
An interesting variety exists from Denver Mint. Buffalo Head coins minted with only 3 1/2 legs on the buffalo. Overlapping on the dies caused the problem.

I have encountered a 1936 buffalo nickel not in the best condition but still a lot of detail. Just wondering its worth and if its true the buffalo nickels are good luck my husband said he heard they were.
Hi,
Without seeing the coin it is impossible to say what it might be worth. But with the way you’ve described it I would say it might be worth a few dollars. I would take it to a local coin dealer and have them look at it.
Thank you for your post.
