The 1914 Buffalo Nickel were struck by the 3 mints, The Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints.

At the Philadelphia Mint 20,665,463 coins were struck. The Denver Mint minted 3,192,000 and at the San Francisco Mint 3,470,000 coins were minted.

The Philadelphia Mint struck 1,275 matte proof coins.

With the 1914 Buffalo Nickel two interesting varieties exist. Coins minted at the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints had some over-date problems that caused what are called 1914/3 strikes. Coins minted at these 2 mints have a slight horizontal ridge across the top of the 4.

It is believed that approximately 220,000-330,000 coins were made this way at the Philadelphia Mint.

The 1914/3 that were made at the San Fancisco Mint are very hard to seen and it was only in 1997 that Thomas K. Delorey discovered it. It is estimated that about 110,000 coins were made this way.
